a favorite.

Helmut Lang. Simply great. My new 'kit'.
Just need to get a pair of crop black jeans & that sherpa lined leather jacket (or one similar within my price range!) to go with my black cami I already have !!

wrap up.

ok. it is official. it is fall.

Not much we could do about it except prepare for the cooler weather. Besides the feet that need more substantial protection from the elements (good bye flip-flops…) I find that layering around the upper body is best to tackle the chillier temperatures, especially as the wind picks up. An item which I have always had great affection for is a scarf. I have many sizes, but my preferred ones are colourful & those which allow me to snuggle under multiple wrappings.

I particularly have 2 types I have spotted and want to indulge in. I am in love with/ & in need of a large bold buffalo type scarf, red/black combo to be exact. It will be on the top of my list to find. I also like the idea of wearing a chunky crochet scarf, well more of a shawl, the grandma type. I have one in my possession, have had it for many years, one I had scooped up at a retro store in Montreal many moons ago. It's a deep red & hand knitted, very european feeling, very D&G. I love finding treasures in my keep sake trunks!

fleece yourself.

If you are not a fleece lover, then this year is the time to amend your point of view of it's wonderful potential. It is everywhere lately and the greatest aspect is that everyone can wear it. What I love in particular is how it has reached an elevated status. It is still an essential casual item such as the perfect zip hoodie, but it has become a novelty renewed top that can be worn in so many different looks. It's no longer the piece that you take when going to the gym or cottage, you want to move it upscale in your wardrobe. Take it to work, to dinner with your cool/hip friends,  & yes, even to church :)

I personally like the way it is used for graphics, it's the perfect canvas. And clean structured shapes are ideal, especially in stunning neutral shades, loving the pinky-nudes. And take a look at the play of lengths offering layering concepts with the crop styles. The ones below from Acne Jeans are awesome, they easily replace your sweater needs.

discovering.

So I admit I do follow the runway shows because I love to see other people's visions & enjoy how they inspire my own dressing possibilities. Came across "Pam & Gella', don't think I have ever heard of them. My attention was enticed by their 1rst shot with denim, of course. I can't say I am particularly captured by the whole collection, but they did have some very cool pieces that make me look at my closet with new eyes. As much as I analyze the top designers I do think that there plenty of visionary people out there who have great potential impact.
I try to seek them. Are you seeking outside your box?

These are elements that I can easily incorporate into my dressing:
-Colours: blk/white/grey/nude/tan
-Graphic print (loving the eye)
-Fringed leather (have a vintage one that works well)
-Leather pants (don't have :(  (but have similar pleather)
-Classic stripe with heather grey, so much easier than with white
-FAbulous football tee

play it safe.

Some people are just soooo ok with all they wear, no limitations. And that's ok…

Patterns can be very overwhelming for some. Lately there seems to have been an explosion. Personally, I love patterns & I am one of those who doesn't mind mixing it up a bit either (though a little tamer than above!) gives me a extra 'oomph' to what I am wearing & often reflects my mind state. The more creative I feel, the more daring my combinations. There is a kind of art form in compiling the juxtaposition of a few patterns together, one is usually more in focus & others play supporting roles, perhaps subtler colours & the introduction of textures, giving even more dimension without being too imposing.

But for those who are shyer in exploring the imposing trend, may I suggest indulging in classic polka dot and mensy stripe. Kept within modern clean lines and neutral colours, it will fit into your closet easily without upsetting your more neutral tendencies.
